#RunYourCity with Geordin Hill-Lewis at the Absa RUN YOUR CITY CAPE TOWN 10K in 2025

Cape Town Mayor, Geordin Hill-Lewis, is calling on all Capetonians to lace up their running shoes and join him at the start line of the Absa RUN YOUR CITY CAPE TOWN 10K on Sunday, 11 May 2025, as the Mother City prepares to celebrate the 10th anniversary of this iconic road running event.

The Absa RUN YOUR CITY CAPE TOWN 10K is a premier mass participation road running event that showcases the vibrant spirit, culture, and scenic beauty of Cape Town. It forms part of the Absa RUN YOUR CITY SERIES, a nationally acclaimed series consisting of five mass participation 10km road races hosted across South Africa.

“The Absa RUN YOUR CITY CAPE TOWN 10K has had such a positive influence on our city - from showcasing Cape Town’s vibrant spirit and scenic beauty to uniting communities through the shared joy of running,” says  Cape Town Mayor, Geordin Hill-Lewis. “I’m incredibly excited to be on the start line this year, not necessarily out front with the elites, but right in the middle of the action with the thousands of everyday runners - because that’s where all the fun is!”

Open to runners of all fitness levels, the 10-kilometre route takes participants through iconic city landmarks and diverse neighbourhoods, combining elite athletic performance with community celebration. Known for its electric atmosphere, live entertainment, and world-class organisation, the Absa RUN YOUR CITY CAPE TOWN 10K is one of South Africa’s most exciting and accessible road races.

“I invite all Capetonians to lace up their running shoes and join me as we celebrate our incredible city, its amazing people, and the 10th anniversary of this iconic event,” adds Cape Town Mayor. “With its unique blend of fitness, fun, and community spirit, what better way to celebrate a 10-year milestone than by running side by side through the vibrant streets of Cape Town?"

“It’s truly amazing to welcome Cape Town Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis to the start line of the Absa RUN YOUR CITY CAPE TOWN 10K in 2025,” says Michael Meyer, Managing Director of Stillwater Sports and Founder of the Absa RUN YOUR CITY SERIES. “Having the Mayor take part in the event alongside thousands of runners is incredibly meaningful to us, as it highlights the spirit of unity and celebration that defines this race. Over the past ten years, we’ve built a fantastic relationship with the City of Cape Town, and without their unwavering support, this event would not have grown into the iconic celebration of sport, culture, and community that it is today.

The city has played a vital role in helping us shape a world-class experience for both elite athletes and everyday runners, and we are immensely grateful. To have the Cape Town Mayor experience the event from the same perspective as thousands of Capetonians is a powerful reminder of what the Absa RUN YOUR CITY CAPE TOWN 10K is all about - bringing people together, celebrating our beautiful city, and creating memories that last a lifetime.”

With just two months to go until the 2026 edition of the Comrades Marathon on the 14th of June, the Comrades Marathon Association (CMA) can announce that preparations for the 99th edition of the race are moving forward smoothly, with a healthy blend of tradition and innovation. While the runners preparing for the approximately 87km ultra-marathon between Durban and Pietermaritzburg are putting in their final big month of training mileage (and some are running their qualifying marathon before the qualifying cut-off on 4 May), the CMA and its Race Organising Committee (ROC) are hard at work with the planning and logistical preparation that goes into this iconic event.
