This bodes well for the event, which is nearing the completion of phase 2 of the candidacy process to become an Abbott World Marathon Majors (AbbottWMM) event. The race, which is already considered Africa’s premier marathon, will then bring Africa its first Major.

With just two months to go until the 2026 edition of the Comrades Marathon on the 14th of June, the Comrades Marathon Association (CMA) can announce that preparations for the 99th edition of the race are moving forward smoothly, with a healthy blend of tradition and innovation. Achilles Athletics Club shines at successful Fundraiser
Lake Farm Centre celebrated the 31st edition of their annual Charity Run on Saturday with strong participation in challenging weather conditions. Achilles Athletics Club had an exceptional performance, scooping first man home for the 25km Rolf Kordes Endurance Challenge and the top three finishers in the 10km.Longstanding sponsor and Achilles club athlete, Alan Taylor of Bukani Print, received a special tribute from Lake Farm Centre both at the start of the 10km and at the prize giving to thank him for 45 years of generous support. Alan, who will be emigrating later this year, will be deeply missed as the passionate runner with a huge heart. The running community applauded Taylor for the massive contribution he has made to athletics in the Eastern Cape.
