The Boxer Super Run in Durban will boast an impressive R147 200.00 prize purse in 2024

The organisers of South Africa’s most social 5km run, the Boxer Super Run, are thrilled to announce an impressive R147 200.00 prize purse in 2024. This prize purse applies to both the Elite Race and the Open Wave. In the Elite Race, prize money will be awarded to the Top 8 male and female finishers, with the winners each taking home a well-deserved R20K. Additionally, in the Open Wave, the Top 3 male and female finishers in categories including Junior, Open, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, and 70+ will also be rewarded for their efforts.

"The Boxer Super Run has redefined the standard for 5km events, and we’re proud to raise the bar even higher this year with an unprecedented R147 200.00 prize purse,” says Michael Meyer, Managing Director of Stillwater Sports. “This prize purse applies to both the Elite Race and the Open Wave. In the Elite Race, prize money will be awarded to the Top 8 male and female finishers, with the winners each taking home a well-deserved R20K. Additionally, in the Open Wave, the Top 3 male and female finishers in categories including Junior, Open, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, and 70+ will also be rewarded for their efforts."

“The 5km distance is a true crowd-pleaser. It’s not just fast; it also demands endurance and strategy,” Meyer continues. “This makes it an exciting challenge for elite athletes. With the added incentive of a significant prize purse, we can’t wait to showcase just how talented and competitive South African runners really are. The Elite Race is a must-see spectator highlight. In 2023, Boxer Athletics Club’s top runners, Precious Mashele and Glenrose Xaba, set remarkable records as the fastest South Africans (at that time) to complete a 5km run on home soil, with times of 13:44 and 16:03, respectively. Will they or any of their peers match or surpass these feats this year? Join us to find out."

“We’re thrilled to offer an impressive R147 200.00 prize purse in 2024 as a reward for South Africa’s elite athletes,” says Lee-Ann Pillay, Boxer Superstores Head of Department: Marketing. “Being an elite athlete isn’t easy—if it were, more people would do it. It requires hard work, dedication, early mornings, and the resilience to overcome numerous setbacks. Our elite athletes truly deserve recognition and support, and we’re excited to provide a platform that both celebrates and rewards their commitment and exceptional talent.”

The Elite Women’s and Elite Men’s Waves will bring an exciting conclusion to a day full of 5km fun at the Boxer Super Run in Durban on Sunday, 13 October 2024. This spectator highlight promises an electrifying showdown as South Africa's top athletes compete for the prestigious titles of King and Queen of the Boxer Super Run.

Excitement Building as Comrades Marathon celebrates 60 Days to Race Day

With just two months to go until the 2026 edition of the Comrades Marathon on the 14th of June, the Comrades Marathon Association (CMA) can announce that preparations for the 99th edition of the race are moving forward smoothly, with a healthy blend of tradition and innovation. While the runners preparing for the approximately 87km ultra-marathon between Durban and Pietermaritzburg are putting in their final big month of training mileage (and some are running their qualifying marathon before the qualifying cut-off on 4 May), the CMA and its Race Organising Committee (ROC) are hard at work with the planning and logistical preparation that goes into this iconic event.
